Information Society- The concept and related notions

The first post about something serious.. :) In this post i will talk a bit about the traditional rooms and the aspect of time. How has internet and the information society changet these trems an what have we gaind.

The information society is divided into five parts: Technological, Economic, Occupational, Spatial and Cultural.
I want to put the spatial aspect in the front line, I don’t have time to write about all, and I hope that my fellow students have written about the other themes :)

The information society is huge, and a big part of peoples life all over the world. A lot of people do their work mainly on computers, and delivers the result over mail or other ICT tools to their employer. This leaves the place where the work is done to be less important. And in these days every minute counts so with the technology of today people can suddenly be at two places at the same time. A person can travel to a meeting, while typing work related notes on their laptop and they can do a lot of work from their home if a child is sick.

Another thing that pops into my head while typing my thoughts about the spatial aspect of the information society is the network societies that are developing, like facebook and twitter. This is a new area where people can interact with their friends and coworkers without actually speaking to them. You can let people know what you are up to and what you are interested in. but also use it as a forum where all coworkers in a firm could communicate and share ideas and thoughts. Almost like a internet based classroom. Witch also is a new way of giving space to the “traditional” rooms all over.

I like the idea of making some traditionally rooms some new space and make the information more available, this connects people over large distances and makes the world a smaller place.
This is just a few of the new opportuneties the information society has given us, and i`m looking forward to see the next ones come.
